Digital technologies for the care of dementia sufferers

The ZAFH AAL (Ambient Assisted Living), which was founded in 2013 under the leadership of HFU, develops innovative systems and technologies to support independent living into old age and to ensure social relationships and participation for people who require assistance.

Such approaches are urgently needed in view of demographic developments and the need of an ever-growing group of very elderly citizens to live independently in their familiar surroundings for as long as possible.

The resulting systems and technologies are being developed in an interdisciplinary network, taking into account gerontological and social science aspects.

The following sub-projects are being carried out at ZAFH AAL:

  • Intelligent navigation support for those with impaired perception
  • Miniaturised odor sensor to support the participation of people with disabilities
  • GeTeP - Interfaces society - technology - person from an ethical and (social) gerontological perspective
  • Context-based situation recognition, analysis and protection of privacy
  • Procedure models and development methods for the consistent interdisciplinary user-centered development of AAL solutions
  • AAL in training practice and in the day-to-day work of helping professions
