How mobile are people in rural areas?

The MIR Institute (Mobility and Infrastructure in Rural Areas) is part of the Faculties of Business Information Systems, Business Administration and Engineering and Digital Media at Furtwangen University. It was founded in the summer semester of 2021 and focuses include sustainable mobility and infrastructure in rural areas. The main topics here are the mobility situation and the expansion of public transport in rural areas, the use of other sustainable alternatives such as carpooling, the reduction of CO2 emissions and, as a result, the reduction of the ecological footprint.

ABPA

The ABPA research project deals with the concept development and implementation of a system for the automated analysis of the condition of cycle paths.

NorOvA

The "User-oriented optimisation of transport services" project between HFU and Verkehrsbund Schwarzwald-Baar GmbH (VSB) developed digital tools to survey and evaluate the mobility needs of specific user groups – also with a view to optimising existing public transport services.

Mobility at rural universities

The model project with the full name "Sustainable mobility concepts for students and employees at universities in rural areas" (period or "Mobility at rural universities" for short) dealt with the mobility situation at the participating universities.
