Tips for applying for a scholarship

to all "scholarships" articles

If you are eligible for several scholarships, now is the time to apply. You generally increase your chances of success if you apply to several foundations at the same time. However, it is important that you can imagine being a scholarship holder at the respective foundation and that it also fits in with your ideas and values. You should follow these five tips for a successful application:

1. Start early
An application can only be successful if you submit it on time. Depending on the foundation, there are one or two application phases per year. If you miss these, you will have to wait until the next possible deadline. For this reason in particular, you should keep an eye on the deadlines and bear in mind that preparing an application can also take some time.

2. Compile documents
It is now important that you take care of compiling the necessary documents. As a rule, a CV and a letter of motivation are required. Depending on the case, however, expert opinions, certificates and certain supporting documents may also be required. You can usually find more detailed information on the website of the respective foundation.

3. Personalised application
In order to have the best possible chances when applying, it is also essential to take a closer look at the respective foundation. Under no circumstances should you write a standardised application that you send to all the foundations you apply to. It is much better if you focus on the values and mission statement of the foundation in question and go into more detail about one or two of its offers. This form of individualised application shows the scholarship providers that you have taken an in-depth look into the foundation.

4. Stay true to yourself
Your authenticity also plays a central role in your application. In your application, you should describe yourself as you really are.

5. Completeness
Before you finally submit your application documents, make sure they are complete. Write yourself a checklist and check once again whether you really have all the required documents. Incomplete applications not only make an unfavourable impression, but can also lead to exclusion right from the start.

  • Be yourself When applying for a scholarship it is also helpful just to be yourself and not try to be something you are not. "Your value lies in what you are, not what you have." (Thomas Edison)
