Myths about scholarships

to all "scholarships" articles

There are a number of myths and misconceptions surrounding the topic of scholarships. Perhaps these have prevented you from taking a closer look at the possibility of a scholarship. This is precisely why we have compiled the biggest misconceptions for you.

Misconception 1: Scholarships are only for the highly gifted, committed and needy
In total, there are more than 40 selection criteria that can be relevant for choosing the right scholarship holder. These include, for example, your field of study, the educational background of your parents or your religious beliefs, ... not just your grades and your commitment!

Misconception 2: Scholarships are only awarded to first-year students
Although there are scholarships that you can only apply for during your first semester, there are also a number of others. These are available at all stages of your studies, for example, or are even specifically aimed at advanced semesters or doctoral students.

Misconception 3: There are too many other applicants. I don't stand a chance anyway.
This is also a myth. More than 2/3 of all students have never applied for a scholarship. What's more, every 5th foundation is currently unable to find suitable scholarship holders. So you have a good chance!

Misconception 4: There are only a few scholarship providers
With more than 2,500 foundations, institutions and organisations, there are a considerable number of scholarship providers in Germany. The interesting thing is that over 90% of students apply to less than 1% of the foundations.

Misconception 5: Enormous application effort
With many scholarship providers, you often only need a cover letter and your CV, possibly also a short letter of motivation. Of course, there are also some that require a little more work.
