A whole new level of grinding

Development of innovative DLP-printed grinding tools with varying and workpiece-specific adjustable grain sizes

The aim of this collaborative research and development project is to design new types of grinding tools that are manufactured using digital light projection (DLP) and whose composition can be designed in almost any way. This includes adapting the type, proportion, distribution and characteristics of components such as grain size, bond, pores and the macro and micro geometry of the tools. In particular, complex geometries with integrated cooling channels are to be realized. This innovation aims to overcome existing limitations in the application of grinding tools and create an additively manufactured solution that surpasses conventional grinding tools in terms of function and application possibilities. The development of these advanced grinding tools is intended to open up a new dimension in material processing that goes far beyond the possibilities of conventional processes.
