HFU President Prof. Dr. Alexandra Bormann welcomes first semester students on the Furtwangen Campus

First semester students welcomed to Furtwangen University - students start new chapter in their lives

On Tuesday, 1 October Furtwangen University (HFU) welcomed the new students for winter semester 2024/25. After an individual programme by the faculties in the morning, the first-semester students were warmly welcomed at the three campuses in Furtwangen, Schwenningen and Tuttlingen. In the packed auditorium in Furtwangen, HFU President Dr. Alexandra Bormann raised students' enthusiasm for the new phase of life awaiting them. She recommended to the new students, “Enjoy the opportunities, move forward with courage and have the best time at HFU!”

In Schwenningen, Prof. Dr. Ulrike Salat welcomed the new students. The Vice-President for Partnership and Society talked about the special time that the first semester students are now commencing. A time in which horizons are broadened and friends for life are made - above all, Ms Salat recommended networking outside one's own faculty and campus boundaries.

Prof. Dr. Hans-Georg Enkler, Vice President for Academics and Diversity, welcomed the first semester students on the Tuttlingen Campus, saying,“Regardless of the degree you have chosen, you will experience a very personal and practical learning environment here. A special feature of the Tuttlingen Campus is that it is located in the world centre of medical technology and is supported by numerous companies.” Proof of this was the presentation of the “Dr. Winkler Foundation for the Promotion of Young Talent” award for the best undergraduate students of the year. Kreissparkasse Tuttlingen also awarded two prizes to students for the best project work in 2023/2024.

As part of the freshers' welcome, students were able to find out more at the “Market of Opportunities”. The student union AStA and some of the many student clubs were onsite to introduce themselves, as well as Student Services Freiburg and the start-up support programme startUPcampus. “I was nervous before I started, but feel better now I have good overview of everything,” reported one student on her way to the canteen after the market.

Over the course of the week, there will be further individual welcome events at HFU to get the first semester students off to a good start.
