Open Campus: Krankheiten mittels Fluoreszenz sichtbar machen

to HFU News

Dr. Göbel von Karl Storz referiert über Trends in der modernen Endoskopie

An Open Campus lecture entitled “Trends and perspectives in modern endoscopy” will take place on Tuesday, 11 June, starting at 7.00pm on the Tuttlingen Campus of Furtwangen University (HFU). The speaker will be Dr. Werner Göbel, Head of the “New Devices & Applications” department at the Tuttlingen-based medical technology company KARL STORZ. The lecture is the third of five in the ongoing medical technology series and is free of charge. Registration is not required.

“In the lecture, I will discuss the current state of the art, particularly with regard to imaging procedures in endoscopy, and then present new developments in this area,” says Dr. Werner Göbel. “These include marker-based fluorescence visualization methods for the selective detection of certain tissue entities and the visualization of certain physiological parameters using spectral imaging.” In particular, this involves making pathologically altered tissue such as tumor tissue visible during the procedure.

Endoscopy is a gentle and efficient medical diagnostic and therapeutic procedure. Endoscopy is characterized by a camera that is attached to a tube or hose. Doctors insert these devices into the inside of the body through artificially created or existing openings. The recorded image provides a deep insight and reveals pathological changes. These so-called “minimally invasive procedures” have become standard in modern medicine.

The speaker - Dr. Werner Göbel
Dr. Werner Göbel has been working at KARL STORZ SE & Co. KG in the Research and Technology department since 2009. As head of the “New Devices & Applications” department, he focuses on technological feasibility studies for endoscopic illumination, spectral and fluorescence marker-based imaging procedures and corresponding clinical feasibility studies. He studied physics in Heidelberg and received his doctorate in the field of “Neuroscience” at ETH Zurich.

Outlook and venue
The Open Campus events will take place on the Tuttlingen Campus of Furtwangen University in A Building, Kronenstrasse 16. The medical technology series will continue after the summer break with lectures by Aesculap and KLS Martin.
