First Semester Welcome Programme for the Faculty of Business, Design & Media in Furtwangen

Dear first-year student,

By applying you have overcome the first hurdle and we are glad that you've decided to take a media study programme at the School of Design & Media and our Faculty of Business, Design & Media here in Furtwangen. To make your start simpler, we offer optimum support to help you achieve your academic goals.

It's important that you keep yourself up-to-date about all news around your study life. Therefore, you need your university account. You find your future login data (username and password) on the application portal MIO at “Study certificates” / “HFU account information”. There, you can sign-in with your login data that you've created while you applied.

The main source of information for our faculty is our course on FELIX “IV - HFU School of Design and Media (FuWa) - Intranet (Stud.)”. Important information will be sent to you via mail to your HFU email address. Please check it frequently.

Your schedule including building and room details are available via S-Plan. Our online classes take place in Zoom. More details on using Zoom can be found here.

To ensure a participation without problems, we recommend logging in to Zoom prior to starting time, so you can check if your setup and camera is working. We recommend using headsets to assure good audio quality and to avoid sound interference. You can check Zoom in advance here.

• 10.30am: First semester welcome by Vice-Dean Prof. Thomas Krach

• 12.00 noon: Welcome from the Board of Executives & Opening "Markets of Opportunities"

  Introduction of various digital tools of the university, such as the university accounts and mail, student portal, schedule, Zoom and FELIX.

Beginning of the programme and lectures according to timetables

• 2.00pm: Online workshop “Lectures (without frustration) - Effective Note-taking” (in German, optional)
  Location: Online
   
• 3.30pm: "BAföG, Wohnen, Beratung & Co" - The student services provides tips. (in German)
  An introduction by Student Services mainly focusing on the topic of “government grants (BAföG)”. Additionally, the student counsellors will introduce themselves and there will be information on student finance and social counselling.

Wednesday 20 March, 2025

• 9.00pm: Studierbar – 90s party (optional)
  Get to know other students in a relaxed atmosphere. The “Studierbar” will be organised by the Student Union (AStA) several times a semester with different themes.

Monday 28 March, 2025
